Victoria

Victoria a.k.a. Nao Victoria was the first ship to fully circumnavigate the world. The voyage was lead by Ferdinand Magellan and was accompanied by four other ships. Of this fleet of five, the Victoria was the only surviving ship. Magellan himself had been killed in the Philippines. This ship along with the others was given to Magellan by King Charles V of Spain. The Victoria was named after the church of Santa Maria de la Victoria de Triana, where Magellan took an oath of allegiance to King Charles V in order to be granted full access to the Spice Islands.

The four other ship that sailed with Victoria (tonnage 85, crew 42) were the Trinidad (tonnage 110, crew 55), the San Antonio (tonnage 120, crew 60), the Concepción (tonnage 90, crew 45) and the Santiago (tonnage 75, crew 32). The Trinidad was Magellan's flagship. It, the Concepcion and the Santiago were wrecked or scuttled; the San Antonio deserted the expedition before the Straits of Magellan and returned to Europe on its own.

Victoria was classified as a carrack or nao (ship), as were all the others except Trinidad, which was a caravel.
